Tilly Trotter has devotedly served Mark Sopwith at Highfield Manor for twelve years. She is his wife in all but name. Theirs is a scandalous yet happy arrangement. But when Mark dies, Tilly is left pregnant with his illegitimate child.

Cast out of the manor house by Mark’s spiteful grown-up daughter, Tilly is forced to face the prejudices of the local village. No stranger to hardship, she makes do as best she can, but when a villager’s vicious attack leaves her baby son, Willy, half blinded she knows that it is time to leave her native Tyneside.

A new love seems to offer an escape and so she follows her heart to America, sure that this will be the beginning of a better life. But new perils await Tilly across the ocean...

Tilly Trotter Wed The Tilly Trotter Trilogy Book 2 edition by Catherine Cookson Literature Fiction eBooks

This is the second installment to the wonderful Tilly Trotter Trilogy, though I don't think it is the best of the three. The first and the final ones are better than this one, in my opinion, but that could well be the break from the Northern England as Tilly sets sail with her new husband to America where he has been living for the past several years, returning to attend his father's funeral. It begins some 12 years after the first book ends still as Mark's mistress and housekeeper. However, upon his death I felt she really should have married to whom she was better suited. So seeing her marry the wrong man, which seems a little incestuous even though they are not related, and then set sail to America and living a wholly different life than in England - I guess that is why this is not my favourite in the trilogy. But it does redeem itself upon her return home and becoming mistress of the house she was once a mistress of a different kind and housekeeper in.

Still, the book is so easy to read and easily enjoyable, I always find myself swept back to the time and era of these books. The series is highly addictive and Tilly is a wonderfully strong character. I love reading and watching how each one develops.
Be warned though, you MUST read the books in order or you will miss parts in the story and they will not make sense.

Tilly Trotter Wed The Tilly Trotter Trilogy Book 2 edition by Catherine Cookson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I like the well written saga of the life of Tilly Trotter, such a survivor! I realize it is historical fiction but I'm sure glad I didn't live in the 18th century.
I love Catherine Cookson's books. Her stories are so written that she makes her characters come alive
for me. This one I really enjoyed because I could identify with some of the things she went through.
It is a wonderful trilogy and I like the way it ended.
Tilly was finally able to come into her own and let her heart feelings out.
Over the years I have read all of Catherine Cookson's books as soon as they came out. The Tilly Trotter series was always one of my favorites. Sometimes the books would come out in the United Kingdom before they reached the US. As an avid traveler, I would purchase books in train stations and often would come across a Cookson book that I had not found here at home. Traveling across England while reading about the towns that I came through made the books that much more poignant. Now, many years later I am rereading my old favorites. The characters are just as real to me now as when I first read about them and just as unforgettable.
Once I had finished reading the first book in the Tilly Trotter Trilogy I just had to keep going to find out what was instore next for Tilly. Although through out the series you think you can predict how thing will end up as the story comes along you begin to doubt your instincts as it take many different twists & turns along the way, very much so with this the second book in the series with a complete change of scenery & life for Tilly. Definately worth reading, especially if your a fan of Catherine Cookson.
I hadn't read a Catherine Cookson book for years, but recently while considering what my next read would be, I came across the Tilly Trotter Trilogy. Knowing that I have read Cookson before and enjoyed them, I happily purchased the first book. I was so glad, the books are so well written. I couldn't wait to get the second and then third book. If you love a well written, romance, family saga, historical novel then this is it. You won't want to put the books down. Great read from beginning to end.!!!
Catherine Cookson repeats several lines at the beginning and the end of the second book of the Tilly Trotter Trilogy book 2 ( whew, that's a mouthful or should I say a line full of t words.) The book is as good as the first book. The historical fiction is very graphic to say the least, but so very true. I cannot deny that these fictional events happened in real life in some other setting, for one only has to study history to know that the world is cruel as well as kind. I would encourage you to read it if you dare.
My wife read these books in hardback cover many years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed them I therefore had no qualms about getting the trilogy via . Best move I ever made.
She just couldn't wait to get started in reading them. The following are her comments....
I would recommend this trilogy to any person who enjoys Catherine Cookson books, preferably her earlier ones. The descriptive writing of the time is just so "spot on". Although I have to admit that there were times when there was too much of repetitive events from previous Tilly Trotter books, in saying that in no way does it detract from the story.
The flow on from book to book is very good indeed. I know I will read this trilogy many times in the future.
